Pulling Back to Move Forward
نویسنده
چکیده
Animal cells can change shape and move by using actin polymerization to drive plasma membrane protrusion. Giannone and coworkers (this issue of Cell) describe how cells periodically pull back on these protrusions in order to sense and respond to the rigidity of their environment.

Actomyosin pulls to advance the nucleus in a migrating tissue cell.
The cytoskeletal forces involved in translocating the nucleus in a migrating tissue cell remain unresolved. Previous studies have variously implicated actomyosin-generated pushing or pulling forces on the nucleus, as well as pulling by nucleus-bound microtubule motors. We found that the nucleus in an isolated migrating cell can move forward without any trailing-edge detachment. When a new lamel...
متن کاملA Note on the Two Approaches to Stringy Functors for Orbifolds
In this note, we reconcile two approaches that have been used to construct stringy multiplications. The pushing forward after pulling back that has been used to give a global stringy extension of the functors K0, K , A, H[CR, FG, AGV, JKK2], and the pulling back after having pushed forward, which we have previously used in our (re)-construction program for G–Frobenius algebras, notably in consi...
متن کاملThe Relationship between Forward Head Position and Dorsal Kyphosis with non-specific Chronic Low Back Pain in Military Mans
Background and Aim: Improper body posture and differences in spinal angles can lead to orthopedic injuries. Forward head and kyphosis are some of the complications of improper posture that can lead to back pain. The aim of the present study was to investigate the relationship between forward head position and dorsal kyphosis with non-specific chronic low back pain in military mans. Methods: In ...
متن کاملExploring the free-energy landscapes of biological systems with steered molecular dynamics.
We perform steered molecular dynamics (SMD) simulations and use the Brownian dynamics fluctuation-dissipation-theorem (BD-FDT) to accurately compute the free-energy profiles for several biophysical processes of fundamental importance: hydration of methane and cations, binding of benzene to T4-lysozyme L99A mutant, and permeation of water through aquaglyceroporin. For each system, the center-of-...
متن کاملQuantification of the tug-back by measuring the pulling force and micro computed tomographic evaluation
Objectives The aims of this study were to quantify tug-back by measuring the pulling force and investigate the correlation of clinical tug-back pulling force with in vitro gutta-percha (GP) cone adaptation score using micro-computed tomography (µCT). Materials and Methods Twenty-eight roots from human single-rooted teeth were divided into 2 groups. In the ProTaper Next (PTN) group, root canal...
